The Resource Centre at North Nova is staffed by four program support teachers and four educational assistants. The centre is designed to assist students identified as experiencing difficulties in their regular subject areas. Emphasis is placed on English and Math, but assistance is offered in other subjects when needed.
The Resource Centre is also used as an alternate setting for students to write tests, exams, and assignments, when the classroom setting is not conducive to their individual learning style. Support is also offered inside the regular classroom area as well.
Adaptations are strategies or resources to accommodate the learning needs of an individual student experiencing difficulties in the regular academic program. Program Support Teachers plan, implement, and evaluate adaptations to enable the student to achieve the public school curriculum outcomes. Adaptation menus receive input from program support teachers, subject teachers, parents, and students.
Individual Program Plans
The Individual Program Plans are structured programs designed to assist students to achieve academic success throughout the high school years. Students in this program are identified through psycho educational assessments. Program support teachers work with subject teachers to develop the individual plans. They also assist teachers in locating materials appropriate to the individual learning styles. Curriculum outcomes for IPP students are different from regular outcomes.
Program Support Teachers also work with Summer Street Industries in developing work placement programs for students with special needs.
